Winter Wonderland

I really can't say that I *like* winter.  I don't really like summer either.  I'm a spring/fall person (who would LOVE California weather-- who needs seasons?) But there are a few aspects of a winter in Maryland that aren't too shabby.

First, we got a little blanket of snow last Monday-- just enough dry, powdery snow to cover everything and give us some to play with.  (But not a huge tree-killing, electricity-losing snowpocalypse.)

 I swear it's not dandruff.

porch angels.

yes.  more snow please!

And a day or two after the snow, as it can only do here in bipolar weather central, it got to be like 62 degrees.  So we went and played outside and soaked up every last drop.

"I'm a lion at the zoo!"

And then today we decided to do something TOTALLY new and tried ice skating for the first time.  On one of the coldest days we've had (28 degrees!) we got all bundled up and gave it a shot.  For the record, I haven't skated since 2004-- and that was in Central Park with a bunch of 7 year olds.  I managed not to fall on my ass, although I can't say the same for Lucy, though she took it in stride.  It's a good thing we had her dressed for the Iditarod.

She actually did pretty well, she liked it best when I pushed her around while leaning on the bucket, because then we could go faster.  Holding hands was a no-go because I couldn't be singularly responsible for supporting both of our body weights, but Lucy did pretty well on her own with a little shuffle-shuffle technique.

It is about 3 hours later that I'm sitting here writing this blog and my feet are still pulsating.  I think I could hack this maybe once more this winter.  On a warmer day.  With 2 extra pairs of socks.
